Planning for resilience of water networks under earthquake hazard

چکیده

Water networks are vulnerable to earthquakes and failures of network components can result in a lack availability services, sometimes leading relocation the community. In New Zealand, there statutory requirements for water providers address resilience infrastructure assets. This is done by identifying managing risks related natural hazards planning appropriate financial provision manage those risks. addition this, impact from Canterbury region has accelerated need understanding potential risk critical minimise socio-economic impact. As such, developing pragmatic approaches deliver hazard information stakeholders.
Within context improving networks, this study presents transparent staged approach assessment adopting three significant steps: (i) define an earthquake scenario which needs be assessed managed; (ii) identify parts components; (iii) estimate likely outage time services areas interest. The above process illustrated through case with supply wastewater Rotorua Lakes Council estimating ground motion intensities, damage identification modelling affected number crews preferred repair strategies.

Resilience-Based Framework for Distributed Generation Planning in Distribution Networks

Events with low probability and high impact, which annually cause high damages, seriously threaten the health of the distribution networks. Hence, more attention to the issue of enhancing network resilience and continuity of power supply, feels more than ever, all over the world. In modern distribution networks, because of the increasing presence of distributed generation resources, an alternat...

Hazard function analysis for flood planning under nonstationarity

The field of hazard function analysis (HFA) involves a probabilistic assessment of the ‘‘time to failure’’ or ‘‘return period,’’ T, of an event of interest. HFA is used in epidemiology, manufacturing, medicine, actuarial statistics, reliability engineering, economics, and elsewhere. For a stationary process, the probability distribution function (pdf) of the return period always follows an expo...

Hazard Mitigation for Earthquake and Subsequent Fire

This paper is a progress report of a MCEER research project on the development of multihazard protection technologies for critical facilities. One important component is to consider earthquake and earthquake induced hazards (e.g. fire, haz-mat leakage, power outrage, etc). This paper is concerned with earthquake and subsequent fire hazards. Records from historical earthquakes show that sometime...

Qualitativce probabilistic networks for planning under uncertainty

Bayesian networks provide a probabilistic seman tics for qualitative assertions about likelihood. A qualitative reasoner based on an algebra over these assertions can derive further conclusions about the influence of actions. While the conclusions are much weaker than those computed from complete probability distributions, they are still valuable for suggesting potential actions, eliminating o...
